pumpkins 1. Picking ‘em out
Yes, this is probably one of my top favorite parts of pumpkin carving. Late one night (normally only a few days before Halloween), my dad and I head over to the pumpkin patch and pick out a beauty. This year we got a monster one, a baby one, and a tinsy one. :)

2. Creativity
When carving pumpkins, there is always plenty of room for creativity. Last year I made a big pig jack-o-lantern and this year I made a baby pig. Although sometimes it is really hard to think of what to do your pumpkin as. I took FOREVER trying to decide what to do our big one this year, so we just did a traditional pumpkin. :)

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about scraping the goop out of a pumpkin together and carving it with your dad. It’s really fun, and normally we laugh a lot.

My family is very tradition-oriented. Almost every holiday we have a tradition that has to be carried out. For the past couple of years, though, my dad and I have started a new tradition… pumpkin seeds! We cook them and eat them. Surprisingly, they taste just like sunflower seeds!

jack-o-lantern me5. Photo-op!
And my personal second favorite (and the only spot where my mom participates) is the photo-op. After it’s all carved and cleaned up, it’s picture time! Of course, we take pictures throughout the course of the carving session, but the final product ones are really fun. :)
