Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five - fallHere’s five of my favorite things about homeschooling. I would  definitely encourage homeschooling… very rewarding! For more faves, check out Susanne’s blog.

  1. More Off-days
It’s always nice to be able to kick back at the beach  and know that all the rest of the schools are still in session… ok, maybe not. But I do generally get out for the summer in April(though not all homeschoolers get out that early), as opposed to our school district’s May. It may be because we don’t take off as many trivial holidays… but we still can’t figure out how 5 less days off can get us finished a whole month before the rest. But don’t get me wrong... homeschooling is a lot of work. :)

Friday classes2. Flexible
Being homeschooled is nice because you can be very flexible. You want me to babysit at 9 in the morning? Ok! I can just do my school in the afternoon. You can have friends over during the week and not have to worry about the next day being a school day because they brought their school with them!

extra-curr. activities 23. Extra-curricular Activities
One of the main questions asked to homeschoolers is “how do you play sports?” The answer is simple, “the same way you do!” :) Sometimes your covering school has sports of it’s own, or the bigger private schools let you play on their sports teams. My dance, for instance, is neither of the above, but it’s specially for homeschooled students!

extra-curr. activities4. Friday Classes
When I start talking about my classes and my teachers, people always get confused. “But you’re homeschooled, aren’t you? You don’t go to school!” And that’s where they’re wrong. On Fridays my covering school, a.k.a. our co-op (a big bunch of homeschoolers who generally meet at a church), has classes, such as PE, choir, drama, etc. There are classes throughout the week as well, such as chemistry, biology, algebra, etc. Friday classes are definitely my favorite part of the week.

social life 2 5. Social Life
No, homeschoolers are not anti-social. We do have friends! Now, some homeschoolers are very anti-social and rarely leave home, but I’ve never met one. We hang out after school, we study together, we even do school together! :)
