All about the ducks...

Although I could easily fill up this blog really fast with stuff about my ducks, I will just leave that to my duck website. :) But, I have to at least introduce you to a few of them. Because, although I won't post about them all the time, they will make it into the conversation every once in a while(ok, maybe more than once in a while, but you get what I'm saying).
I've been raising ducks for quite a while. It started the Easter after we moved into our new house, a house on a lake. Mom and Dad gave my sister and I coupon for two baby ducklings. So, after a few weeks, we went to a local outdoor flea market and bought two cute ducks. Unfortunately, my sister's died very fast, so back we went and bought a few more ducks. Every year since then we've bought more. This spring we ordered 10 ducks online. They came in robust and healthy, and so we sold 5 and kept 6(yes, I can count, they just gave us an extra one.)
At the moment I have a total around 28 or 30 ducks. And yes, everyone of them has a name and a personality that sets them apart from everyone else.
Here are some pictures and names for you to enjoy!

This is DOT. She's very friendly and will do just about anything to get food. Even climb up stairs. :) She's a muscovy.

This is Fuzzy. He's a pekin. Although you can't see it in this photo, he actually has a cute little topknot of feathers. He has been attacked by several snapping turtles, so he's missing lots of pieces of his feet. He is a very handsome boy who is my oldest duck (maybe) at the moment.

These are the ducks that I mentioned in my early post. They are almost inseparable. They grew up together, and you rarely see them apart, except when they outrun each other for food. From left to right: Snuggles, Apple(in the back), Henry(the girl!), and Skittles. Apple(male) is a Khaki Campbell, and the other white ducks are pekins (like Fuzzy.)

I have lots of other female muscovies (much to the chagrin of my dad), and lots of males too, for that matter. Here's a few of my favorites. From left to right: top - Cheese, Blackie, Moon(she died of old age this summer). bottom - Dusty, Marshmallow(was eaten by a turtle), and Ovy (eaten by a fox in the spring this year).

Yes, my ducks often meet gruesome ends. Turtles, hawks, snakes, foxes. You name it, they've probably been eaten by it. But even though our cemetery is always growing, they are still SO much fun to have around and to watch. And no, I do not spoil my ducks. :)

Here's a short video of my ducks from a couple years ago. Enjoy!

They have been some cool pets, I have to agree. Except for how sad it is when one of them dies.
